Lindsay Coats Artist Reception!!

Artist Reception Friday September 10th, 7 to 9!!! Featuring:
NH Institute of Art Professor Lindsay Coats.

The seductive beauty of clear plastic objects tempted me formally with their sensitivity to light and small undulations of color and their usefulness as a surface to paint on.  Space is complicated because of their transparency, causing shadows to seem to hold form.  Clouds are ethereal, tenuous, ever changing representations of earths innocent emotions and time, echoing clear plastics infinite small undulations of color and light.   The gritty and distorted mannerisms of the horse act as a representative of the natural world and humans historical partner who reacts to the impact of environmental destruction.   These elements aim to understand current political and environmental events and how they intertwine with their historical origins and future consequences.

Lindsay Coats lives in Weare, NH.  While living in Eureka, California she was an Adjunct Professor at College of the Redwoods and Education Manager at the Morris Graves Museum of Art.  She received her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from University of California, Davis, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Painting from Brandeis University, Waltham, MA and her Bachelor of Arts from Wheaton College, Norton, MA. She was represented in California by Piante Gallery in Eureka where she had two solo shows.  Her work appeared at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, CA, in the Drawing: Visions, Surfaces, and Beyond group show.   Most recently, Lindsay participated in Visionshift! Art in the Age of Climate Change, a group show at the Santa Fe Art Institute.  Her work consists of low relief sculpture, paintings, and drawings and uses cloud, clear plastic containers, and gestural horse head imagery.
